On Supplements
I don’t believe it’s as simple as just taking the ‘right supplements’. Sure, supplementation can help fill the needs gap by providing nutritional support in ways that food these days often doesn’t. Supplements can sometimes help to substitute for what we’re not getting from our day-to-day food supply. For a variety of reasons ranging from an influx of chemicals into our water, soil, air and food- to a decrease in food nutrients across the board- supplements can be helpful in providing some of the missing components that we need in order to rebalance and/or successfully heal our bodies. Ideally, we should structure our meals and eating habits around the ultimate goal of getting proper nutrition- from FOOD. Can you imagine? Eating for nutrition instead of taste or convenience…
And, yes: there are some supplements out there that I LOVE. Taking supplements, in my opinion, should never be used as a standalone therapy- they wouldn’t address all of our ever- evolving needs. The select few I might recommend wouldn’t be based solely on symptoms- I’m not in the habit of the “take this for that” mentality. Many supplements I might suggest are also not designed to be taken indefinitely, but rather, just to help provide relief and/or support while the body is healing.
To receive the most benefits from all supplements recommended during someone’s healing journey, that person will need to also embrace the customized and strategic protocol designed just for them. That is, they would need to follow all specifically tailored recommendations in stress reduction, sleep hygiene, eating habits, dietary guidelines, and exercise. Supplement protocols that I personally design for clients are created using the results from their functional lab screening results, combined with their unique metabolic makeup, their health goals, and lifestyle habits- so each protocol is truly different from the next.
I aim to help people find answers and get relief without having to spend a lot of money on testing or supplements. The truth is, these things can really end up costing a lot. And ultimately, our bodies end up having to metabolize and process everything we ingest- supplements and all- which can add on unnecessary strain. We all have the capacity to start unraveling our symptoms and start feeling better. Minimizing superfluous supplements helps decrease the work our bodies to do, enabling us to become our healthier selves faster.
